Mon Dec 22 17:24:31 UTC 2025: ## J&K Police on High Alert Amid Rising Militant Threat
Srinagar, December 22, 2025 – Amid increasing intelligence reports suggesting potential militant attacks on high-value targets, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat has affirmed that terror groups and their supporters are firmly under the watch of law enforcement in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking at the 14th Police Martyrs Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament in Jammu’s Kathua, DGP Prabhat emphasized the commitment of the police to “completely eradicate anti-national and anti-social elements” from the region, including terrorists, drug dealers, and gangsters.
Security has been significantly heightened across Jammu and Kashmir in response to the intelligence inputs. Recent weeks have seen extensive search operations in Rajouri and Kishtwar districts following reports of militant movement and activity. A gunfight in Udhampur district also saw a group of militants escape, prompting increased vigilance in the Chenab Valley.
Officials have directed major power projects in Kishtwar and surrounding areas to enhance their security measures. In Kashmir, security has been reinforced at key installations, with increased frisking, vehicle checks, and surveillance of former militants.
DGP Prabhat highlighted the close coordination between police and other security agencies in conducting aggressive operations against terrorists, their support networks, drug traffickers, and hawala operators. He stated that the ongoing operations aim to “dismantle the entire terror ecosystem,” treating drug trafficking and hawala rackets as serious national security threats.
The Lieutenant-Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, regularly reviews security preparedness in meetings focusing on operational readiness and outcomes. DGP Prabhat added that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is consistently updated on the security situation and progress in curbing terrorism within the Union territory.
