Fri Dec 19 11:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Scorchers Set Sizzling Pace as Heat Face Improbable Chase at The Gabba
Brisbane, Australia – The Perth Scorchers have set the Brisbane Heat a daunting task after posting a massive 6-257 at The Gabba on Friday, the second-highest total in Big Bash League history. The Heat, in reply, were 1-190 after 14 overs, facing an uphill battle to chase down the imposing target.
The Scorchers’ innings was built on a blistering partnership between Finn Allen (79 off 38 balls) and Cooper Connolly (77 off 37 balls), who combined for a 142-run stand that propelled the team to 150 runs by the 12th over. Connolly reached his half-century in just 27 balls, while Allen smashed eight sixes in his dynamic innings. The late surge was led by Nick Hobson (26) and Laurie Evans (16).
The Heat’s fielding performance did little to help their cause, with four dropped catches and 14 wides contributing to the Scorchers’ momentum. Spinner Matt Kuhnemann endured a particularly tough outing, conceding 60 runs in his spell, becoming the most expensive spinner in BBL history.
The Heat’s chase got off to a rocky start when Colin Munro was dismissed for a golden duck off Jhye Richardson’s first ball. However, Matt Renshaw ignited the innings with a rapid half-century, reaching the milestone in just 29 balls, including six sixes. Jack Wildermuth also contributed with a quickfire 50 off 25 balls. Renshaw followed up with a century from 48 balls including 9 sixes and 5 fours.
Whether the Heat can overcome the mountain of runs remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: fans at The Gabba were treated to a night of explosive hitting.
