Fri Dec 19 01:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Capitals Look to Rebound Against Maple Leafs After Dismal Road Trip

Washington, D.C. – The Washington Capitals (18-11-4) return to Capital One Arena tonight at 7:00 PM to face the Toronto Maple Leafs (15-12-5) after a brutal two-game road trip that saw them outscored 10-1. The game will be broadcast on MNMT and 106.7 THE FAN.

The Capitals are hoping to reignite their offense, which has sputtered recently, with only six 5-on-5 goals in their last five games. Coach Spencer Carbery acknowledged a slippage in the team’s overall game, citing issues with checking, puck possession, and overall crispness.

“I just feel like there’s a couple of things that have started to slip with our group,” Carbery said. “Like the checking part, a little bit… I’ve just felt like our offensive game, our game with the puck, has slipped a little bit.”

Washington has struggled to score lately, failing to net more than two goals in their last four games, a feat they avoided throughout last season.

Toronto, on the other hand, comes into the game riding a hot streak, having earned at least a point in seven of their last eight contests (5-1-2). They recently overcame a 2-0 deficit against the Chicago Blackhawks to win their homestand finale 3-2.

Despite the Leafs being five points behind the Capitals in the standings, both teams are part of a tightly packed Eastern Conference, where a single win can significantly impact a team’s position.

The Capitals defeated the Maple Leafs 4-2 in their previous meeting on November 28th. They are hoping to replicate that success and break their current slump in front of their home crowd.
