Fri Dec 19 06:05:13 UTC 2025: Bengaluru Actor Aindrita Ray Alleges Negligence After Open Burning of Garbage Causes Respiratory Distress
Bengaluru, India – Kannada actor Aindrita Ray has taken to social media to voice her concerns over the alleged negligence of civic authorities in Bengaluru, after discovering large piles of household garbage being openly burned near her residence in RR Nagar. Ray, who lives in the Ideal Homes area, reported experiencing severe respiratory distress, congestion, and breathing difficulties due to the thick smoke and stench of burning plastic permeating her home.
After enduring the discomfort for three days, Ray investigated the source and found garbage being burned in an open ground close to residential buildings. She shared a video on Instagram documenting the scene, showing plumes of smoke billowing into the air from burning piles of trash.
“I have been suffering for three days. I had severe congestion and can’t breathe properly,” Ray stated in her post. “There was a constant smell of plastic and other waste being burnt. I live in Ideal Homes, RR Nagar. Today I couldn’t bear it anymore, so I decided to find out what it was – and this is what I saw.”
Ray told NDTV that the situation worsened to the point where she considered hospitalization and temporarily moved to her parents’ home for relief. She also claimed that attempts to contact the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) helpline were unsuccessful.
The actor emphasized that residents in her area diligently follow waste segregation protocols, raising questions about why such open burning is occurring. She also expressed concern for other residents, particularly those with pre-existing respiratory conditions like asthma.
Ray’s complaint comes a month after the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) announced a reward program for citizens who report littering.
