Tiruchi Aavin Ice Cream Plant Poised to Begin Production After Years of Construction

TIRUCHI, India – December 18, 2025 – Dairy enthusiasts in the Tiruchi district are eagerly anticipating the launch of the Tiruchi District Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union (Aavin)’s new ice cream plant, located on its premises at Kottapattu on the Tiruchi-Pudukottai Highway. Production is expected to begin in the coming weeks, marking a significant milestone for the regional dairy cooperative.

The initiative stems from projections indicating a substantial increase in revenue from ice cream sales. Previously reliant on the Madurai Aavin plant for its ice cream products, Tiruchi Aavin proposed building a dedicated facility with a ₹43.41 crore investment sourced under the Dairy Processing and Infrastructure Development Fund.

Construction, which began approximately three years ago, faced delays with initial estimates projecting completion by December of last year. However, only civil work could be completed on time. Now, with 95% of the erection of plant and machinery finished, sources tell The Hindu that the plant is ready to commence operations.

The inauguration is expected to be conducted via video conference by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. Initial production will focus on curd, with a capacity of 1,500 litres per day. Ice cream production will follow a week later.

The new facility, featuring sections for ingredient preparation, refrigeration, freezing, and packing, is designed to produce a wide variety of ice creams with diverse flavors. Its product line will expand to include kulfi, candy, buttermilk, and lassi, allowing Tiruchi Aavin to independently market a comprehensive range of dairy products.

The launch of the ice cream plant is poised to add significant value to Tiruchi Aavin, enabling it to meet local demand without dependence on external sources.
