CHENNAI – Nissan India has unveiled plans to drastically expand its model lineup in the coming years, signaling a renewed focus on the Indian market. By 2027, the automaker aims to offer a portfolio of four models, up from its current sole offering, the Magnite.
The expansion will kick off with a minor update to the Magnite in 2026, focusing on feature enhancements. The real excitement begins with the launch of the Tekton, a mid-size SUV positioned to rival the Hyundai Creta and Tata Sierra. The Tekton, built on the same CMF-B platform as the Renault Duster, boasts design cues inspired by the larger Nissan Patrol and a striking three-tone interior. Pricing is expected to be announced in March.
Adding to the anticipation, Nissan has confirmed a 7-seat SUV will arrive in 2027. While sharing the CMF-B platform with the Tekton, Nissan emphasizes that the 7-seater will be a distinct product, differentiated in design and intended to avoid merely being an “extended” version of the Tekton.
“The 7-seater will be completely different – not just an extension of the Tekton,” said Saurabh Vatsa, managing director of Nissan India.
To support this ambitious product offensive, Nissan is investing heavily in its infrastructure. The company plans to increase its dealership network from the current 150 to 200 before the Tekton launch, and further to 250 by the time the 7-seat SUV hits the market. Simultaneously, Nissan will ramp up its sales and service personnel from 800 to 3,000.
