LaKeith Stanfield to Star as Dennis Rodman in Lionsgate’s “48 Hours in Vegas”
Los Angeles, CA – LaKeith Stanfield has been cast as NBA icon Dennis Rodman in Lionsgate’s upcoming comedy, “48 Hours in Vegas,” replacing Jonathan Majors who was previously attached to the project. The film chronicles Rodman’s infamous trip to Las Vegas during the 1998 NBA Finals as his Chicago Bulls team were striving for their second three-peat championship.
Rick Famuyiwa (“The Mandalorian,” “Ahsoka”) is set to direct and rewrite the screenplay, based on an earlier draft by Jordan VanDina. Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Aditya Sood will produce the film through Lord Miller, with Ari Lubet, Dennis Rodman, and Lucy Kitada serving as executive producers.
“I’m genuinely excited to help create an exhilarating, joyful work that both honors and thoughtfully examines the legacy of Rodman and fellow trailblazers,” said Stanfield in a statement. “Those who moved to the beat of their own drum, undeterred by the obstacles placed before them, then and now.”
Stanfield, known for his roles in critically acclaimed films such as “Judas and the Black Messiah,” “Sorry to Bother You,” and “Get Out,” brings a wealth of talent to the role.
“Dennis Rodman is more than a basketball player, more than a personality—he’s an entire cultural phenomenon,” said Erin Westerman, president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “His bold style and physical presence, combined with an iconic persona, created a larger-than-life impact on and off the court. There’ll never be another like him. LaKeith and the incredibly talented team on this film will bring the legend to life in this most extraordinarily unbelievable story.”
Majors was previously attached to the role, but was dropped after his assault conviction. “48 Hours in Vegas” is currently in pre-production, with release dates to be announced.
