Karnataka to Hire 11,000 Schoolteachers to Fill Vacancies

Belagavi, India – December 18, 2025 – The Karnataka State government will soon begin recruiting over 11,000 schoolteachers to address long-standing vacancies within the Department of Education, announced Madhu Bangarappa, Minister for School Education and Literacy, today. The Minister made the announcement while responding to queries from assembly members Harish Poonja and Sharanu Salagar.

Bangarappa also clarified the government’s stance on English language instruction, stating that they are already in the process of hiring bilingual teachers capable of teaching both English and other subjects. He assured the Assembly that the government is committed to providing English language instruction in all schools, regardless of the medium of instruction.

Responding to concerns regarding teachers being assigned non-academic duties such as census and election-related work, Minister Bangarappa acknowledged his personal reservations. He explained that while he is not personally in favour of these assignments, the government is often bound by directives from the Union government and that there are few alternative sources of such a large and skilled workforce, noting that only the Education Department has so many skilled and credible employees.
