Sleep Token’s “Caramel” Sweetens the Top Spot on New York Times’ Best Songs of 2025 List

NEW YORK, NY – November 8, 2025 – In a move that’s reverberating through the music world, Sleep Token’s “Caramel,” a track from their chart-topping album “Even in Arcadia,” has claimed the coveted No. 1 spot on The New York Times’ esteemed “Best Songs of 2025” list. The annual list, unveiled earlier this week, is divided into two sections, with “Caramel” topping the list curated by critic Jon Caramanica.

Caramanica lauded “Caramel” as “a huge, gloriously silly and brutally effective amalgam of abandoned styles ripe for reinvigorating – rap-metal, dream-prog, pop-reggaeton, backpack hip-hop, cosplay rock, metalcore and more.” The song was the second single released from “Even in Arcadia,” which itself achieved massive success, hitting No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard charts with 127,000 album-equivalent units sold, including 73,000 pure album sales. The album also topped charts in eight other countries, marking a monumental achievement for the enigmatic masked collective.

Caramanica’s list included a diverse range of artists, including Brandon Lake and Jelly Roll, Drake, Tate McRae, and The Weeknd, with the top 20 songs ranked and the remaining listed as honorable mentions.

The second section of the list, titled “Blasts of Sass” and compiled by Lindsay Zoladz, featured Wet Leg’s “Mangetout” at No. 13. Zoladz described the track as a “grinning kiss-off with sass to spare.” Artists like Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, Lady Gaga, and Cardi B also graced the “Blasts of Sass” section.

The New York Times’ “Best Songs of 2025” list further cements Sleep Token’s place as a dominant force in the contemporary music landscape, showcasing their innovative sound and widespread appeal. The full list can be found on The New York Times website.
