Wed Dec 17 16:13:36 UTC 2025: ## News Article: Thousands of Karnataka Students Miss SSLC Exam Registration Deadline
Bengaluru, December 17, 2025 – A significant number of students in Karnataka, a total of 40,434, have failed to register for the upcoming Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) annual exam-1 scheduled for March-April 2026, despite multiple deadline extensions. The Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) reports that out of 8,40,196 students enrolled in class 10 across the state’s government, aided, and private schools, only 7,99,762 have completed the registration process, which concluded on December 9th.
The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) is concerned by the high number of unregistered students and has directed DSEL officials to conduct audits in all high schools across Karnataka to investigate the situation. The department aims to determine the reasons behind the low registration numbers.
Sources indicate that the unregistered students may include those attending unauthorized schools or schools with lapsed recognition renewals. It is also possible that some unregistered students are school dropouts or have poor attendance records.
“Every year, around 5,000 to 15,000 students from unauthorized schools and schools that have not done recognition renewal are facing problems as they cannot register for the exam. The children are suffering due to the mistakes of the school management,” said a senior official of KSEAB. “This year, the number of students who have not registered is very high.”
KSEAB officials have instructed teams to verify student lists and ascertain the reasons for non-registration. They are also tasked with identifying and registering eligible students, as well as finding ways to bring dropouts back into the education system. In prior years, students from unrecognized schools have been permitted to take the exam by registering under nearby government or aided schools. The DSEL plans to remedy the student drop-off and provide opportunities to complete registration.
