Wed Dec 17 15:36:14 UTC 2025: Trump Aide’s Candid Remarks Stir Controversy, White House Stands by Her
Washington, D.C. – Susie Wiles, Chief of Staff to President Donald Trump, is facing a media firestorm after candid interviews with Vanity Fair magazine were published on Tuesday. Wiles is quoted as describing Trump as having an “alcoholic’s personality” despite being a teetotaler, and called Tesla CEO Elon Musk an “odd, odd duck.” The remarks have drawn criticism, with Wiles herself labeling the piece a “hit job.”
The Vanity Fair report, based on 11 on-the-record interviews conducted by journalist Chris Whipple over the past year, chronicles the first year of Trump’s second term. Wiles, the first woman to hold the Chief of Staff position, is described as the “most powerful person in Trump’s White House other than the president himself.”
Despite the controversy, the Trump administration is publicly backing Wiles. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the “entire administration is… united fully behind her.” Trump, in an interview with the New York Post, defended Wiles, suggesting her comments about his personality were intended to convey his driven nature.
Other notable revelations from the report include Wiles’ assessment of Vice President JD Vance as a “conspiracy theorist” and her critique of Attorney General Pam Bondi’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. Wiles also reportedly questioned Trump’s decision to pardon individuals convicted in the January 6th Capitol riot, while defending the administration’s policy of military strikes on alleged drug boats in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific.
Musk, who held a close relationship with the White House overseeing the now defunct Department of Government Efficiency, has yet to comment on the remarks.
