The brothers, who fled to Phuket, Thailand, hours after the incident, were deported from Thailand on Tuesday and arrested in Delhi. They arrived in North Goa this morning and underwent medical examinations before being presented before Judicial Magistrate First Class Mapusa Puja Sardesai.
The court ordered the five-day police custody after the Anjuna police registered a case against the Luthra brothers on various charges, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
“We are committed to a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragedy,” stated a Goa Police spokesperson.
The Luthra brothers had been the subject of an Interpol Blue Corner Notice, and their passports were cancelled after they fled the country. Thai authorities detained them on December 11th following a request from the Indian government. The Indian government then coordinated with Thai officials to deport them.
Five managers and staff members of the nightclub were previously arrested in connection with the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
