Delhi Metro Expansion Gets Green Light: Land Allotted for Rithala-Kundli Corridor
New Delhi, December 17, 2025 (IST) – A significant hurdle has been cleared for the construction of Phase 4 of the Rithala-Narela-Kundli metro corridor project, as the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has allotted land to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena approved the allotment, paving the way for the construction of a vital viaduct between Rithala and Rohini Sector 25. The project had been stalled for several years.
According to a statement released by the Lieutenant-Governor’s office, the DJB will transfer 50 square meters of land at the Rithala sewage treatment plant to DMRC on a 99-year lease, in addition to providing 1,286 square meters temporarily for viaduct construction over the next four years. DMRC will pay DJB ₹75.5 lakh for the land.
The completion of the Rithala-Kundli corridor promises to significantly enhance connectivity between Delhi and Haryana, alleviate traffic congestion and pollution in north-west Delhi, and provide improved metro access for a large population residing in border areas. Furthermore, the project is expected to accelerate the planned development of Narela into an education, residential, and sports hub, complete with improved civic amenities.
