Madurai, December 17, 2025 – A. Rajkumar, 36, a known history-sheeter, has been arrested for allegedly attacking his brother-in-law, S. Arunachalam, 35, with a hammer during a domestic dispute near Peraiyur.

According to police reports, the incident stemmed from ongoing tensions related to dowry demands. Rajkumar, married to Arunachalam’s sister Vijayarani, had allegedly been harassing her for dowry, prompting her to file a police complaint and seek refuge with her brother.

Enraged by this, Rajkumar, who already has several criminal cases pending against him, including charges of attempted murder, reportedly attacked Arunachalam with a hammer. Arunachalam sustained significant injuries, including a broken tooth and lacerations to his jaw, lower lip, and left ear. He is currently receiving treatment at the Government Medical College hospital in Virudhunagar.

Periayur police are currently investigating the incident.
