Four Arrested in Los Angeles for Alleged New Year’s Eve Bomb Plot
LOS ANGELES, CA – Federal authorities have arrested four individuals in the Los Angeles area for allegedly conspiring to carry out a series of coordinated bomb attacks across the city on New Year’s Eve. The individuals, identified as Audrey Ilene Carroll, Dante Garfield, Zachary Aaron Page, and Tina Lai, are allegedly members of a radical offshoot of the Turtle Island Liberation Front (TILF), an extremist group motivated by pro-Palestinian, anti-law-enforcement, and anti-government ideologies.
According to a federal court complaint, the group planned to plant “complex pipe bombs” in backpacks at multiple locations across Los Angeles. The complaint alleges that the group was using the encrypted messaging platform Signal to coordinate the attacks and had even taken steps to construct and test explosive devices in the Mojave Desert on December 12th.
The complaint alleges that the four involved in the plot were not attempting to kill people, and if they saw anyone in the area of their bombs, they would try and warn them.
FBI Director Kash Patel stated that the group planned coordinated IED bombing attacks targeting five separate locations across Los Angeles. First Assistant US Attorney Bill Essayli linked the arrests to efforts to combat “far-left-terror threats” in the US, describing the group as an “Antifa-like” organization. Essayli said the group was targeting “US companies” but did not elaborate.
The four defendants are expected to make their initial appearance in federal court Monday afternoon in Los Angeles.
