Wed Dec 17 16:04:38 UTC 2025: Hyderabad Police Issue Festive Season Cybercrime Warning
Hyderabad, India – December 17, 2025 – With Christmas and New Year celebrations fast approaching, the Hyderabad cybercrime police have issued a public advisory urging citizens to be extra vigilant against online fraud. Authorities warn that cybercriminals are exploiting the festive season, characterized by increased online shopping and activity, to target unsuspecting victims.
The police highlighted several common scams anticipated during this period, including fake lottery winnings, phoney gift offers, and bogus New Year’s Eve party passes sold through counterfeit websites. Fraudulent travel and holiday packages, fake hotel bookings, and charity donation requests using fake accounts are also prevalent.
Citizens are urged to avoid clicking on suspicious links from unverified sources received through SMS, WhatsApp, email, or social media. Police cautioned against sharing OTPs, PINs, CVV numbers, or bank details, and to verify bookings and offers through official channels. Two-factor authentication is strongly recommended.
Deputy Commissioner of Police V. Aravind Babu emphasized the importance of timely reporting of fraud incidents. Victims are encouraged to report incidents immediately to the national cybercrime portal (www.cybercrime.gov.in) or by calling the Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930, preserving all relevant evidence such as screenshots and transaction details to aid investigation.
The advisory aims to prevent financial losses and enable law enforcement to take swift action against cyber offenders during the holiday season.
