Ongole, India – December 17, 2025 – Andhra Pradesh is poised to become a major sporting hub, according to A. Ravi Naidu, chairperson of the Sports Authority of AP (SAAP). Speaking at a press conference held at the P. Anand Indoor Stadium in Ongole on Wednesday, Naidu outlined the state government’s commitment to revitalizing the sports sector.
Naidu emphasized the previous Telugu Desam Party-led government’s dedication to sports during its term from 2014-18, highlighting the implementation of a comprehensive sports policy. He criticized the subsequent administration for neglecting the sector, suggesting a renewed focus is necessary.
“The government is committed to transforming Andhra Pradesh into a sporting powerhouse,” Naidu declared. He highlighted the existing policy of reserving 3% of government jobs for sportspersons, allowing for employment without mandatory testing. He further revealed that 421 athletes within the state have recently secured positions through the Mega DSC recruitment drive.
