The Bombay High Court has instructed the Maharashtra government to decide within 10 days on the application of former NCP MLA Zeeshan Siddique for the restoration of his police security cover. Siddique’s security was reduced earlier in the year, and he alleges this happened after his mother sought a court-monitored investigation into his father’s (Baba Siddique) murder. The court emphasized that the government must properly review the situation and communicate its decision to Siddique. Siddique’s lawyers argued that he has been receiving threats since his father’s death.

Bombay High Court Orders Decision on Security for Former MLA
Mumbai, December 16, 2025 – The Bombay High Court has directed the Maharashtra government to expedite its decision regarding the police security cover for former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Zeeshan Siddique. The court’s order, issued Tuesday, mandates a decision within 10 days on Siddique’s application for restoration of his security, which was scaled down earlier this year.
Siddique, the son of the late Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra Minister who was shot dead in October 2024, claims his security was reduced shortly after his mother, Shehzeen Ziauddin Siddique, petitioned the High Court for an independent investigation into her husband’s murder.
During Tuesday’s proceedings, the Advocate General Milind Sathe presented the government’s procedure for granting and reviewing security, assuring the court that Siddique’s request would be promptly reviewed. The Threat Perception Committee (TPC) will evaluate the request and submit recommendations.
However, the court noted concerns about the delay in the security review process. Siddique’s legal team argued that he has been receiving threats since his father’s death, including extortion attempts, and cited a previous threat assessment that prompted security coverage.
Justices Ajey S. Gadkari and Ranjitsinha Raja Bhonsale emphasized that the core issue is not whether security is warranted, but whether authorities conducted a proper and timely review of the situation. The court granted Siddique the option to return to the court if he is dissatisfied with the government’s decision.
