Kidnapping Suspects Apprehended in Erode Businessman Case

ERODE, Dec. 16, 2025 – Two men have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of P. Kishore Kumar, a prominent businessman from the Thalavadi hills, earlier this month. The arrests were made on Monday near the Bannari check-post.

Mr. Kumar, who owns a textile shop and hardware store, disappeared on the evening of December 3rd while on his regular walk along the Thalavadi-Thalamalai Road. He was speaking with his brother, Rakesh Kumar, a doctor in Coimbatore, when he abruptly cried out for help and the call was disconnected.

Following a complaint filed by Rakesh Kumar, Thalavadi police launched an intensive search operation. The kidnappers, apparently spooked by the increased police presence, released Mr. Kumar in the Kumbaragundi forest area near the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border.

Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a government bus traveling from Sathyamangalam to Kollegal and detained Devaraj, 57, from Kolipalya, Karnataka, and Manjunathan, 30, of Chikkagajanur, Thalavadi.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to abducting Mr. Kumar with the intention of extorting money from his family. Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend any other individuals involved in the crime. The case has drawn considerable attention in the local business community.
