DES MOINES, IA – The Powerball jackpot is reaching unprecedented heights, climbing to an estimated $1.1 billion for Monday night’s drawing, with a cash value of $503.4 million. This marks the sixth largest jackpot in Powerball history, sparking excitement and dreams across the nation.
“This jackpot streak is bringing people together to dream big during this festive time of year,” said Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and Iowa Lottery CEO. Strawn urges players to “play responsibly,” emphasizing that a single $2 ticket offers the chance to win while also contributing to local community causes.
The jackpot rolled after no ticket matched all six numbers in Saturday night’s drawing: 1, 28, 31, 57, 58, and the Powerball 16. The Power Play multiplier was 2X.
While no one claimed the grand prize, several tickets across the country won substantial prizes. Seven tickets won at least $1 million. Five tickets, sold in California, Florida, Michigan, New Jersey, and Virginia, matched all five white balls for $1 million each. Two tickets, purchased in North Carolina and Pennsylvania, matched all five white balls and included the Power Play option, doubling their winnings to $2 million.
Additionally, 49 tickets won $50,000 prizes, and 12 tickets won $100,000 prizes. In the Double Play drawing, two tickets, sold in Colorado and North Carolina, each won $500,000 prizes after matching all five black balls.
Monday’s drawing will be the 43rd in the current jackpot run, setting a record for the most consecutive drawings in a single jackpot cycle. The last Powerball jackpot was won on September 6th, when two tickets in Missouri and Texas split a $1.787 billion prize.
If a player wins Monday’s jackpot, they will have the option of receiving an estimated $1.1 billion annuity or a lump sum payment estimated at $503.4 million, both before taxes.
Powerball tickets cost $2 each and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are broadcast live every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET. The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9, while the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
The Multi-State Lottery Association reminds players to verify winning numbers with official sources and to redeem winning tickets in the state where they were purchased.
