New Delhi: India is significantly enhancing its military capabilities with the domestically developed Pinaka Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) system. This advanced system, designed and manufactured by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is rapidly emerging as a formidable force on the battlefield, reducing India’s reliance on foreign rocket artillery.
The Pinaka system distinguishes itself with its multi-barrel launcher mounted on high-mobility vehicles. It is capable of launching a barrage of 12 rockets in just 44 seconds, saturating target areas with rapid and devastating firepower. This “shoot and scoot” capability ensures survivability against enemy counter-attacks.
Beyond its impressive firing rate, the Pinaka boasts several key features. Its auto-leveling and stabilization systems enhance its operational resilience in dynamic battlefield conditions. The system has undergone continuous development, with the initial Pinaka Mk-I boasting a range of approximately 38 kilometers, which has been extended to around 60 kilometers in the Pinaka Mk-II variant.
The Pinaka is not merely a rocket launcher, but a fully integrated weapon system. It includes a multi-tube launcher vehicle, loader-cum-replenishment vehicle, a command post vehicle, and a fully automated fire control system. This comprehensive package provides the Indian Army with a highly effective and self-sufficient artillery solution.
The Pinaka MBRL represents a significant step towards self-reliance in defence production, solidifying India’s position as a major player in the global defence landscape.
