Search and Rescue Operation Concludes in Arunachal Pradesh After Deadly Truck Accident

Itanagar, December 15, 2025 – The multi-agency search and rescue operation in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh has concluded after a mini-truck accident claimed the lives of 20 labourers from Assam. The accident occurred on the night of December 8th along the Hayuliang–Chaglagam road when the truck, carrying 21 people, plunged into a deep gorge.

The incident came to light on December 10th after a survivor reached a nearby Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) camp and alerted authorities. A large-scale rescue operation involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Army, BRTF, local police, and district administration was immediately launched. Despite challenging terrain and weather, rescue teams recovered 20 bodies and one survivor by Sunday.

Anjaw Deputy Commissioner Millo Kojin officially called off the search at 10 a.m. today after an exhaustive search of the accident site. The NDRF team has been released from duty after all remains were handed over to authorities and subsequently to the families of the deceased.

The district administration expressed condolences to the families and acknowledged the professionalism and coordinated response of all agencies involved in the difficult operation.
