Mon Dec 15 14:01:50 UTC 2025: Messi Mania Grips India as Superstar Concludes Whirlwind Tour
New Delhi, India – Lionel Messi, the Argentinian football icon, wrapped up his highly anticipated tour of India on Monday with a final appearance in New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. Thousands of fans braved the city’s notorious air pollution for a chance to see their hero, waving Argentinian flags and chanting his name.
“It was beautiful to receive all the love and support,” Messi told the cheering crowd in Spanish, promising to return to the cricket-loving nation. He entertained the audience by kicking footballs into the stands and posing for selfies.
The visit included a symbolic passing of the torch, with Messi receiving a T20 World Cup ticket and an Indian jersey from ICC Chairman Jay Shah. He also met with former Indian football captain Bhaichung Bhutia, signing jerseys for him and his family.
The Delhi event followed a more chaotic start to the tour in Kolkata, where frustrated fans vandalized a stadium after struggling to catch a glimpse of the heavily guarded superstar.
Despite India’s strong focus on cricket, Messi’s visit sparked immense excitement, reflecting his global appeal. The tour, dubbed the “GOAT Tour,” included stops in Hyderabad and Mumbai, where he met with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and Indian football star Sunil Chhetri.
Messi’s visit comes on the heels of his second consecutive Major League Soccer (MLS) Most Valuable Player award, having led Inter Miami to the MLS title. He is now preparing to lead Argentina in the upcoming World Cup defense in North America.
