Mangaluru, December 15, 2025 – In a forward-thinking initiative, the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, in collaboration with the District Institution of Education and Training (DIET), has completed a five-day intensive AI training program for headmasters of 650 government primary and high schools across the district. The program, held at St. Joseph Engineering College in Mangaluru from December 8th to 12th, aims to equip educators with the skills to leverage Artificial Intelligence tools for enhanced teaching and improved learning outcomes.
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Narwade Vinayak Karbhari emphasized the vast potential of AI to revolutionize education, citing tools that can aid in creating engaging presentations, solving complex scientific and mathematical problems, and preparing students for competitive examinations. He stated the training is designed to make teachers aware of these valuable resources so they can pass them on to their students.
The initial training focused on introducing headmasters to approximately 20 AI tools for content creation, presentation, and evaluation. DIET’s Subrahmanya Adiga highlighted the expert-led sessions showcasing the use of AI in creating visually effective slides and videos, as well as generating question papers.
DIET Principal Sadananda Poonja confirmed that the headmasters will now be responsible for training their respective teaching staff on the newly acquired AI tools, integrating them into their daily teaching practices.
K.V. Rao, Director of the Regional Science Centre at Pilikula, which coordinated the training program, expressed enthusiasm for the potential of AI in knowledge dissemination. He highlighted the support provided by computer students from St. Joseph College who assisted teachers with the operation of the computer systems and tools.
Looking ahead, Mr. Karbhari plans to organize specialized meetings for teachers in English, Science, Mathematics, and Social Science to explore AI tools specifically designed for preparing class 10 students for the SSLC examination and other school-level competitions. The Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat is committed to continued investment in teacher training, ensuring that educators are equipped with the latest technologies to provide the best possible education for their students.
