Montgomery County Public Schools Announce Two-Hour Delay for Monday, December 15th Due to Icy Conditions
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD (December 14, 2025) – Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) announced late Sunday evening that all schools and offices will operate under a Code Yellow, resulting in a two-hour delayed opening on Monday, December 15th.
The decision was made in response to uneven snowfall across the county followed by a rapid temperature drop, raising concerns about potentially hazardous icy conditions, particularly on side streets, sidewalks, and untreated areas. While main roads are reported to be largely clear, residual snow in some areas combined with a rapid freeze has created a safety risk for students and staff commuting to school.
“MCPS is Code Yellow: Delayed Opening for Monday, Dec. 15, with schools and offices opening two hours late,” the announcement stated.
The school system also advised that morning, all-day, and after-school childcare programs may operate as scheduled, but urged parents to confirm directly with their individual childcare providers.
Parents and students are advised to exercise caution during their commute on Monday morning. Stay tuned to The MoCo Show for further updates.
