Vande Bharat Express Targeted by Stone-Throwers in Tamil Nadu

Tiruchi, India – December 14, 2025 – The Chennai Egmore – Tirunelveli Vande Bharat Express sustained damage on Sunday evening after being targeted by stone-throwers between Vriddhachalam and Talanallur railway stations. According to preliminary investigations, a group of boys, aged 15-16, walking near the tracks, threw stones at the train, impacting six coaches (C5, C6, C7, E2, C17, and C18).

While the outer layers of the double-sealed, toughened glass windows were damaged, no passengers were injured. Divisional railway officers inspected the affected coaches at Tiruchi Junction, confirming the safety of passengers and the train’s operational capability.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) have launched a search operation for the individuals involved in nearby villages. Railway authorities have reminded the public that throwing stones at trains is a criminal offense under Sections 153 and 154 of the Railway Act, 1989.
