Kansas City, MO – Actor Jason Sudeikis, best known for his role in the hit Apple TV+ series “Ted Lasso,” is using his platform to bring hope and mobility to amputees across the country. Through an annual Kansas City-based benefit concert called Thundergong!, Sudeikis and a host of celebrity friends are raising funds for Steps of Faith, a non-profit organization that provides prosthetic limbs to those who lack insurance coverage.
The heartwarming initiative was born out of Sudeikis’s desire to support his childhood friend, Billy Brimblecom Jr., a musician who lost his leg to cancer. When Brimblecom faced daunting costs for a prosthetic leg, Sudeikis rallied the community, organizing a barbecue that exceeded fundraising expectations. This initial act of friendship evolved into Thundergong!, a star-studded event that has grown exponentially over the years.
This year’s Thundergong! event raised over $1 million, adding to the organization’s impressive track record of providing prosthetic limbs to over 2,000 amputees nationwide.
Steps of Faith CEO Billy Brimblecom Jr. says the funds raised are crucial, as many amputees are held back from living full lives not by their physical limitations, but by financial barriers.
Josh Conner, a construction worker who lost his leg after a fall, is one of the many people whose life has been transformed by Steps of Faith. Thanks to a new prosthetic limb tailored to his needs, Conner is back at work and has regained his confidence.
The event has attracted support from other “Ted Lasso” cast members like Hannah Waddingham, as well as stars like Will Forte and Flavor Flav.
Brendan Hunt, another “Ted Lasso” actor, emphasized the integrity of the organization, stating, “This is a legit organization that does a really legit, you know, unimpeachably good thing. I would have to fight really hard to find a reason not to do it.”
Sudeikis says it is about helping those you may never meet in their life.
The success of Thundergong! highlights the power of community and the impact of using one’s platform for good. As Sudeikis says, “To do something that you love with people you love, to help people you may never meet, I wish it on everyone.”
