Sun Dec 14 11:42:57 UTC 2025: Bengaluru “Police Officers” Arrested for Armed Robbery
Bengaluru, December 14, 2025 – Bengaluru police have apprehended four individuals accused of posing as law enforcement officers and robbing a 25-year-old man in Vidyaranyapura on December 7th. The suspects, identified as Mallikarjun S. (27), Promod V. (30), Vinay H.T. (36), and Hruthvik P. (24), were arrested following an investigation launched after the victim reported the incident.
According to the FIR, Mallikarjun, dressed in a police sub-inspector’s uniform, along with Promod and Vinay, barged into the victim’s house, falsely accusing him of drug peddling. The imposters ransacked the house, physically assaulted the victim with batons and iron bars, and stole ₹87,000 from his bank account in addition to ₹55,000 in cash.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast), Sajeeth V., formed a special team to investigate the case. The team reviewed CCTV footage and utilized technical leads to identify and apprehend the suspects. The investigation revealed that Mallikarjun, the mastermind behind the operation, was a former police aspirant who failed the qualifying exam. He had been impersonating a police officer in his hometown near Siraguppa, Ballari district. Mallikarjun, who lives in Mathikere, had a uniform tailored and purchased accessories to complete his disguise. He then planned the robbery after receiving a tip-off about the victim.
The accused confessed to planning the robbery, believing they could easily get away with the crime. Police seized ₹45,000 in cash, a car, and a two-wheeler used during the robbery.
The accused are charged under BNS Section 311, which deals with robbery.
