Sun Dec 14 01:40:48 UTC 2025: ## News Article: Islamist Plot Foiled in Germany, Christmas Market Attack Averted

Berlin – December 14, 2025 – German authorities announced the arrest of five men on Saturday, December 13th, suspected of plotting an Islamist attack on a Christmas market in southern Bavaria. The suspects, identified as an Egyptian national and three Moroccans and a Syrian, were taken into custody on Friday.

According to police and prosecutors, the Egyptian suspect, aged 56, allegedly incited an attack in a mosque, calling for the use of a vehicle to target a market in the Dingolfing-Landau district with the intent of causing mass casualties. The three Moroccans, aged 30, 28, and 22, allegedly agreed to carry out the attack, while the 37-year-old Syrian suspect encouraged them.

Investigators believe the plot was motivated by Islamist extremism. All five suspects were brought before a magistrate and remain in custody.

This arrest comes as German authorities remain vigilant following a deadly car ramming attack at a Christmas market in Magdeburg last year, which resulted in six fatalities and hundreds of injuries. Security has been heightened at Christmas markets across the country in anticipation of potential threats.
