Dubai, UAE – Arch-rivals India and Pakistan are gearing up for a highly anticipated clash in the Under-19 Asia Cup on Sunday. The match, a group stage encounter, is crucial for both teams as the winner will secure the top spot in Group A.
Pakistan holds the edge in recent junior-level encounters, having won the last three matches against India, including a victory in the Emerging Asia Cup featuring Under-23 teams. Team India will be looking to turn the tide and break this losing streak.
Both teams come into the game with a win under their belt. India demolished UAE in their opening match, with 14-year-old opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashing 171 runs, including a record-breaking 14 sixes. Pakistan also showcased their batting prowess, with Sameer Minhas (177) and Ahmed Hussain (132) scoring centuries in their win against Malaysia.
India’s impressive 433/6 against UAE saw contributions from Aaron George and Vihaan Malhotra, who scored 69 runs each. They then restricted UAE to just 199 runs, securing a massive 234-run victory. Pakistan, on the other hand, bowled out Malaysia for a paltry 48 after posting 345 runs.
While both teams have two points, Pakistan currently leads Group A due to a superior run rate. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, scheduled for December 19th, with the final slated for December 21st in Dubai.
India’s last victory against Pakistan in Under-19 ODIs came in February 2020 during the World Cup. Pakistan has since dominated the encounters, winning all three matches played in the Asia Cup in 2021, 2023 and 2024.
The possible playing XI for India includes Ayush Mhatre (Captain), Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Aaron George, Vihaan Malhotra, Vedant Trivedi, Abhigyan Kundu (Wicketkeeper), Kanishk Chauhan, Khilan Patel, Deepesh Devendran, Kishan Singh, and Henil Patel. Pakistan’s likely lineup features Usman Khan, Sameer Minhas, Ali Hassan Baloch, Ahmed Hussain, Farhan Yousuf (Captain), Hamza Zahoor (Wicketkeeper), Huzaifa Ahsan, Nikaab Shafeek, Danial Ali Khan, Mohammad Sayyam, and Ali Raza.
The stage is set for a thrilling contest between these two cricketing giants.
