Emma Stone’s Recommendation Led to Taylor Swift’s Epic ‘Eras Tour’ Choreography
LOS ANGELES, CA – Taylor Swift’s new docuseries, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour | The End of an Era, now streaming on Disney+, reveals the surprising influence of actress Emma Stone in shaping the record-breaking tour. Swift credits Stone with recommending choreographer Mandy Moore, known for her work on La La Land, Glee, and So You Think You Can Dance, to helm the tour’s dynamic dance routines.
In the docuseries, Swift, 35, recounts seeking Stone’s advice during the tour’s planning stages. “With choreography, I asked one of my friends, Emma Stone, who’s done a lot of work in dance in her films, ‘Who have you worked with that you would recommend for this?’ She’s like, ‘There’s only one person that needs to be on your list, and it’s Mandy Moore,'” Swift explains in the series.
Moore, a three-time Primetime Emmy winner, initially felt surprised to be working with Swift. “I never would have thought that I would be in the same sentence as Taylor Swift, ever, in my life,” she says in the docuseries. Despite her background primarily in film and television, Moore brought a unique storytelling approach to the choreography, perfectly aligning with Swift’s vision. “She’d gotten a bad rap for a long time about her dancing, so she was really in her head,” Moore told the New York Times. “We shifted the focus to how movement was already manifesting in her body — the way she naturally wanted to move. And then we fine-tuned that.”
The docuseries offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Eras Tour’s development, showcasing choreography sessions and rehearsals, and revealing Swift’s unique method of learning dance moves through lyrical association.
The first two episodes of the six-part Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour | The End of an Era are available now on Disney+. Fans can also experience the final performance of the tour with the release of The Eras Tour: The Final Show, a concert film documenting the last show in Vancouver, also available now.
