Local Pitching Star Aubrey Edwards Commits to Prairie View A&M

ROSENBERG, TX – Lamar Consolidated High School pitcher Aubrey Edwards, a standout player since the age of nine, has officially committed to continue her softball career at Prairie View A&M University. Edwards, who also received offers from Hills College, Southwest University, and LSU Eunice, felt an immediate connection with the Panthers during her visit.

“It felt like home, and the coach is great,” Edwards said. “I felt welcomed and connected to each player, and the environment surrounding Prairie View, it felt like home.”

Edwards will be playing under the leadership of Coach Vernon Bland, an A&M alum entering his 14th season with the Panthers. Bland has led Prairie View A&M to three SWAC championships, including a historic 23-1 conference record in 2024, the most softball wins in SWAC history.

“Coach Bland is giving me the opportunity to continue playing the sport that I love,” said Edwards. “He saw me play a couple of times, he is an amazing coach… and I can’t wait to get there and start learning from him.”

Edwards is coming off a stellar season with the Lamar Consolidated Lady Mustangs, where she helped lead the team to their first-ever district championship, finishing with an 11-1 district record and 21-5 overall before falling in the area round. She credits the team’s hard work and unity for their historic achievement.

“That was an amazing experience for all of us because we worked as a team, and we grinded every day at practice,” Edwards said.

Currently playing select ball with Allusions Gold Clevenger, Edwards is eager to make her mark at Prairie View. “I want to compete as hard as possible and continue the growth that I’ve been going through these past few seasons. During my visit, I felt the energy and support with the team. I really do think they are an all around good school. But as a player I am ready to see the big stage.”

Beyond the field, Edwards plans to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine, fueled by her lifelong love of animals. She is excited to don the Prairie View A&M uniform and contribute to the Panthers’ continued success in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
