Madhya Pradesh Declares Balaghat Region Maoist-Free After Key Surrenders

Bhopal, December 11, 2025 – The Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh is now officially free of Maoist activity, police announced today following the surrender of two wanted Maoists, Deepak alias Chhota Deepak and Rohit. The two individuals, who carried a combined reward of ₹43 lakh, surrendered at a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Korka.

“There is no active Maoist left in the region,” stated Shiyaz K.M., Commandant of the Hawk Force. He added that the two were part of the GRB (Gondia, Rajnandgaon, Balaghat) Division of the Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh (MMC) Special Zone of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist).

Deepak, an additional committee member (ACM), and Rohit, a regular cadre, reportedly decided to surrender after a senior leader, Ramder alias Soma, surrendered in Chhattisgarh earlier this week. Deepak was the last active Maoist from Balaghat district.

This development comes on the heels of a mass surrender on December 7, where 10 Maoists, including four women, laid down their arms before Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. The surrendered Maoists from the KB (Kanha-Bhoramdeo) Division carried a cumulative bounty of ₹2.36 crore.

The recent surrenders mark a significant victory for authorities in their efforts to combat Maoist insurgency in the region.
