Telangana Shivers as Cold Wave Grips the State, Records Lowest Temperatures of the Year
Hyderabad, Telangana – Telangana woke up to a bone-chilling Thursday morning as a severe cold wave swept across the state, bringing the lowest temperatures recorded so far this year. Several districts experienced single-digit minimums, impacting daily life and prompting concerns about vulnerable populations.
Kumaram Bheem Asifabad recorded the state’s lowest temperature at a frigid 5.4°C. In Hyderabad, the mercury plummeted to 7.2°C at Hyderabad Central University (HCU), marking the city’s coldest point this winter. Rajendranagar recorded 8.3°C, while Moula Ali saw 8.9°C.
According to data from the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), other districts also faced near-freezing conditions, including Adilabad (6.1°C), Siddipet (6.4°C), Sangareddy (6.5°C), and Vikarabad (6.7°C). Even in Hyderabad and surrounding areas like Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri, minimum temperatures remained between a chilly 10°C and 13°C.
Areas within Hyderabad also experienced significantly low temperatures, including Gachibowli (10.6°C), Quthbullapur (10.7°C), and West Marredpally (11°C).
Authorities are urging residents to take precautions against the cold, particularly the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions. The cold wave is expected to persist in the coming days.
