Supreme Court Refuses to Transfer Prajwal Revanna Sexual Assault Cases

New Delhi, December 11, 2025: The Supreme Court today rejected a plea to transfer the trial proceedings in pending sexual assault cases involving former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna. The request sought to move the cases from a Special Court in Bengaluru to another Sessions Court in the city, citing concerns of potential bias from the current judge.

The application, presented by senior advocates, hinged on observations made by the Special Judge in his August 1, 2025, judgment convicting Revanna in an earlier sexual assault case. The advocates argued these remarks could prejudice the ongoing trials.

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, leading the Bench, firmly dismissed the argument, stating the court would not tolerate attempts to unfairly influence judicial proceedings. After reviewing the observations, the Bench concluded they were specific to the previous trial and consistent with a High Court judgment.

The Supreme Court’s order emphasized that the trial judge must evaluate the evidence presented in the pending cases independently. The court explicitly stated that no inferences should be drawn against Revanna based on the previous conviction or evidence from that trial, especially considering his appeal is pending before the High Court. The Bench said it found no reason to believe the judge would be prejudiced in the cases.
