Mandya Zilla Panchayat CEO Pushes for Improved Malnutrition Treatment for Children
MYSURU, India – December 11, 2025 – In a move to combat malnutrition in the Mandya district, Zilla Panchayat CEO Nandini K.R. has directed officials to prioritize the treatment of malnourished children. During an inspection of the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) at the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) on Wednesday, Ms. Nandini emphasized the critical role of ASHAs and anganwadi workers in identifying and referring children to the NRC.
“It is imperative that we ensure all malnourished children receive the necessary care to recover and thrive,” stated Ms. Nandini. She underscored the need for awareness programs to encourage mothers to utilize the NRC’s services.
The CEO reviewed the center’s data, stressing the importance of detailed reporting and demanding improved food quality for both mothers and children during their 14-day stay. While screening programs are successfully identifying children suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM), convincing mothers to stay at the NRC remains a challenge.
Ms. Nandini has tasked ASHAs, anganwadi staff, and PHC doctors with providing updated data on malnourished children during weekly meetings. The Panchayat hopes to see a significant reduction in malnutrition rates in the district through these intensified efforts.
