Tue Dec 09 02:58:03 UTC 2025: News Article: Ukraine to Share Counter-Proposal to Trump’s Peace Plan with U.S. Amidst European Support

London/Brussels – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine will share its version of a peace plan with the United States on Tuesday, countering a 28-point proposal put forward by former US President Donald Trump. The announcement came after a whirlwind diplomatic tour across Europe, where Zelenskyy met with leaders from the UK, France, Germany, Finland, Italy, Poland, Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Turkiye, the EU, and NATO.

The European leaders have pledged increased support for Ukraine and promised to intensify economic pressure on Russia, emphasizing the “critical moment” in efforts to end the ongoing war. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s office released a statement echoing this sentiment.

Zelenskyy’s visit followed public criticism from Trump, who claimed Zelenskyy hadn’t fully reviewed the US proposal. “The mood of the Americans, in principle, is for finding a compromise,” Zelenskyy acknowledged, adding that territorial disputes remain a major sticking point.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin has signaled cautious optimism regarding the new US national security strategy, highlighting its perceived alignment with Russian positions, particularly its skepticism towards NATO expansion. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the adjustments in the U.S. strategy as corresponding to Russian vision.

However, as diplomatic efforts continue, Russian forces have intensified attacks in eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian sources reported at least nine civilian deaths in Donetsk and Kharkiv regions since Sunday. Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed to have captured several villages, including Novodanylivka in Zaporizhia and Chervone in Donetsk, though Ukrainian monitoring sites reported further Russian advancements near Pokrovsk.
