“A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical” Shines in New Haven
NEW HAVEN, CT – December 3, 2025 – The Shubert Theatre was alive with the sound of Neil Diamond on Tuesday night as “A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical” opened to a packed house. The show, a biographical musical that premiered in Boston in 2022 and enjoyed a successful Broadway run, takes audiences on a journey through Diamond’s life and iconic songbook, framed by a therapy session between Diamond (Robert Westenberg) and his doctor (Lisa Reneé Pitts).
Local favorite Nick Fradiani, known for his “American Idol” win and Guilford roots, stars as the younger Neil Diamond, electrifying the crowd with performances of classics like “America,” “Cracklin’ Rosie,” and “Sweet Caroline.” Fradiani’s charismatic portrayal captures Diamond’s evolution from a struggling songwriter in Brooklyn to a global superstar, navigating both personal and professional challenges.
The production, which includes hits like “I’m a Believer” (written for The Monkees) and portrays key figures like producer Ellie Greenwich (Heidi Kettenring) and Diamond’s second wife Marcia (Hannah Jewel Kohn), has been praised for its loving and respectful approach to the artist’s life and music. Neil Diamond himself was involved in the production, emphasizing its authenticity.
A highlight of the opening night was Fradiani’s invitation to his father, musician Nick Fradiani, Sr., to join him onstage for a rendition of “Sweet Caroline” during the curtain call, creating a touching, New Haven moment that resonated with the audience.
“A Beautiful Noise” runs at the Shubert Theatre through December 7.
