Mon Dec 08 10:10:00 UTC 2025: ## CarPlay Gets Smarter with Upcoming iOS 26.2 Update

Cupertino, CA – Apple is continuing its push to improve the CarPlay experience with the upcoming iOS 26.2 update, adding new features and refining the existing platform. This comes after a significant overhaul with iOS 26, which brought a refreshed design and enhanced functionality to the popular in-car infotainment system.

While iOS 26 introduced the “CarPlay Ultra” experience, incorporating the new Liquid Glass design language, streamlined notifications, and Live Activity integration, iOS 26.2 focuses on refining the user experience with practical enhancements.

One of the key additions is the ability to unpin messages directly through the CarPlay display. Previously, managing pinned messages required using an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. This new feature provides drivers with more control over their communication while minimizing distractions on the road.

The update also brings improvements to the widget interface. As spotted by The Verge’s Tom Warren, some CarPlay systems will now allow users to display three widgets simultaneously, expanding the information readily available at a glance. This allows for a more customized dashboard, potentially displaying weather, music controls (e.g., Spotify), and a clock all on one screen. However, using three widgets may disable the Live Activities feature.

The changes build upon the significant updates introduced in iOS 26, which included:

  • Liquid Glass Design: A refreshed user interface with a modern, glassy aesthetic for app icons, notifications, and overall UI.
  • Redesigned Notifications: A compact notification view to minimize distractions, showing incoming calls in a smaller strip at the bottom of the screen. The system can also filter unknown callers and messages while driving.
  • Live Activities & Widgets: Displaying two widgets alongside Live Activities for real-time information on things like delivery status and flight tracking.

Apple has not yet announced the official release date for iOS 26.2, but users can expect the update to become available soon. Stay tuned for further updates and a full review once the software is released.
