Mon Dec 08 07:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Dileep Acquitted in Landmark Kerala Actress Assault Case, Finances Under Scrutiny
Kochi, India – Malayalam film actor Dileep was acquitted Monday by a Kerala court in the high-profile 2017 abduction and sexual assault case that has gripped the state for years. Judge Honey M. Varghese in Ernakulam delivered the verdict, convicting six other men, including Pulsar Suni, for their roles in the crime but clearing Dileep of criminal conspiracy.
The verdict marks a significant turn in the case, which began in February 2017 when a prominent actress was abducted and assaulted in a moving vehicle while traveling from Thrissur to Kochi. The perpetrators filmed the assault, allegedly with the intent to blackmail her.
Dileep, arrested months later and accused of masterminding the attack, maintained his innocence throughout the trial. He spent nearly three months in custody before being granted bail.
With the acquittal, attention has shifted to Dileep’s considerable financial assets. Estimated at around ₹600 crore (approximately $72 million USD), his wealth stems from decades of successful films, extensive real estate holdings, hospitality ventures, theaters, and his own production company. Industry insiders say he possesses one of the largest property portfolios of any Malayalam actor.
The actress, who bravely waived her anonymity in 2022, described the assault as having “turned my life upside down,” detailing the trauma she has endured. The case sparked widespread public outrage and led to the formation of the Hema Committee, which investigated the Malayalam film industry and found it to be dominated by a “mafia of powerful men” where harassment was “rampant.”
While Dileep walks free, the six convicted men are scheduled to be sentenced on December 12th. The survivor retains the option to appeal Dileep’s acquittal in the High Court. The case has sparked fierce debate and discussion, exposing deep-seated issues of power and misogyny within the Malayalam film industry.
