RANIPET, INDIA – December 7, 2025 – A cashier at the Walajah Municipality in Ranipet district has been arrested on bribery charges. K. Devaraj, 52, was apprehended by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) yesterday after allegedly demanding ₹5,000 from a sanitary worker to release her salary arrears.
The victim, Eramma, an employee of the municipality, was informed by Devaraj that she would need to pay ₹15,000 to receive her due payments. After Eramma protested, the bribe amount was reduced to ₹5,000. Unwilling to comply, Eramma’s son, S. Gopalakrishnan, filed a complaint with the DVAC.
