Sat Dec 06 22:41:45 UTC 2025: ## Ukraine Talks Stall as Russia Unleashes Massive Aerial Attack
Florida, USA – Three days of negotiations between Ukrainian and U.S. officials in Florida have concluded without a breakthrough, coinciding with one of Russia’s largest aerial assaults on Ukraine since the start of the war. The Russian military launched over 700 drones and missiles targeting energy facilities and critical infrastructure across the country on Friday, officials said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described a phone call with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner as “substantive,” but conceded that any real progress hinges on Moscow’s willingness to engage in genuine peace talks.
The massive Russian assault saw 653 drones and 51 missiles deployed across Ukraine, resulting in at least eight injuries and hitting 29 separate locations, according to Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko. The attack temporarily disconnected the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant from the power grid, raising renewed concerns about nuclear safety. Ukrainian air defenses claimed to have intercepted 585 drones and 30 missiles.
Moscow asserted that the strikes targeted “military-industrial complex enterprises and the energy facilities that support them,” claiming all designated targets were successfully hit.
The diplomatic impasse comes as Russian forces continue to gain ground in eastern Ukraine, closing in on Pokrovsk and nearly encircling Myrnohrad in the Donetsk region. Russia has significantly expanded its territorial control in recent months.
French President Emmanuel Macron is set to meet with Zelenskyy alongside British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in London on Monday to further assess the situation following the failed U.S.-mediated negotiations.
The talks in Florida followed a previous meeting between Witkoff, Kushner, and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, which also failed to yield an agreement. Adding to the complexities, the International Criminal Court reiterated that the arrest warrant for Putin over alleged war crimes in Ukraine cannot be halted by peace negotiations.
Meanwhile, Putin has signaled his intent to continue military operations through the winter, further dimming hopes for a near-term resolution to the conflict.
