Sat Dec 06 22:10:00 UTC 2025: Falcons Rookies Walker and Pearce Forge Dynamic Duo on Defense

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – The Atlanta Falcons’ first-round draft picks, Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr., are quickly proving to be a force to be reckoned with, both on and off the field. Drafted 15th and 26th overall, respectively, the defensive linemen have not only formed a strong bond but are also making significant contributions to the Falcons’ defense.

Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich emphasized the rarity and importance of their burgeoning relationship, especially given their shared position and first-round status. “They’ve found that balance and they really complement each other in a lot of really cool ways,” Ulbrich stated.

The connection between Walker and Pearce began the day after the draft, with the North Carolina natives meeting before flying to Atlanta together. Since then, they’ve been virtually inseparable, navigating the whirlwind of obligations that come with joining the NFL.

Their on-field chemistry is evident in their synchronized success. In Weeks 9 and 10, the pair orchestrated back-to-back strip sacks and fumble recoveries. Walker dislodged the ball from New England quarterback Drake Maye, leading to a recovery by Pearce; the following week, Pearce forced a fumble on Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones, and Walker pounced on it.

Both rookies are vying for the Defensive Rookie of the Year award, currently tied for the most sacks among rookies with five apiece. Pearce leads all rookies with 14.7% pressure rate, Walker follows with 11%.

“For them to have the success they’ve had so early, it’s exciting because they’re just scratching the surface,” said Ulbrich.

With five games remaining, the Falcons still have a slim chance at making the playoffs. Regardless of the outcome, the future looks bright with Walker and Pearce anchoring the defensive line.
