Panaji, Goa – December 7, 2025 – A devastating fire ripped through a nightclub in North Goa late Saturday night, claiming the lives of 23 people. Authorities have confirmed a cylinder blast as the cause of the blaze.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who visited the scene, stated that most of the victims were kitchen staff, including three women. He added that “three to four tourists” were among the deceased. While three died of burn injuries, the remaining victims succumbed to suffocation as they attempted to escape the inferno.
Sawant has ordered an immediate inquiry into the incident, stating that initial information suggests the nightclub had not adhered to fire safety regulations.
BJP MLA Michael Lobo has expressed his grief and called for a comprehensive safety audit of all nightclubs in Goa. “Tourists have always considered Goa a very safe destination, but the fire incident is very disturbing,” Lobo stated. “The safety of tourists and the workers in these establishments is extremely important.”
The incident has sent shockwaves through the popular tourist destination, raising serious concerns about safety standards in the region’s nightlife venues. The investigation is ongoing.
