Mitchell Starc Shatters Record, Becomes Top Left-Arm Test Bowler
Brisbane, Australia – December 4, 2025 – Australian cricket veteran Mitchell Starc etched his name into the history books today, surpassing Pakistani legend Wasim Akram to become the most prolific left-arm fast bowler in Test cricket history.
The 35-year-old achieved the milestone at the Gabba in Brisbane during the first day of the day-night second Ashes Test against England. Starc secured his 415th Test wicket by dismissing England’s Harry Brook, a feat accomplished in his 102nd Test match since his debut at the same venue 14 years ago.
Akram, widely regarded as the greatest left-arm bowler of all time, amassed 414 wickets in 104 Tests. Starc’s recent career-best performance of 7-58 in the first innings of the opening Ashes Test in Perth significantly contributed to reaching this milestone.
Currently ranked 16th on the all-time Test wicket-taker list, Starc has his sights set on overtaking India’s Harbhajan Singh (417) and South Africa’s Shaun Pollock (421) within the current pink-ball Test. Beyond that, New Zealand’s Richard Hadlee (431) remains a target.
