Fri Dec 05 07:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Washington State QB Jaxon Potter to Transfer After Three Seasons
PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State quarterback Jaxon Potter has decided to enter the transfer portal, effectively ending his time with the Cougars after three seasons. A source confirmed the news to The Spokesman-Review on Thursday.
Potter, a redshirt sophomore from Huntington Beach, California, started the first three games of the 2023 season, leading the Cougars to a 2-1 record. He completed 67 of 95 passes for 604 yards, throwing four touchdowns and three interceptions. However, after throwing three interceptions in a loss to North Texas, Potter was benched in favor of veteran Zevi Eckhaus, who took over as the starting quarterback for the remainder of the regular season.
While Potter demonstrated his abilities as a pocket passer, completing 71% of his passes, his lack of mobility ultimately led to the coaching staff’s decision to switch quarterbacks. Head Coach Jimmy Rogers has emphasized the importance of quarterback mobility in the Cougars’ offense.
Potter is the first known WSU player to announce their intention to enter the transfer portal since the conclusion of the regular season, which saw the Cougars defeat Oregon State 32-8 to finish with a 6-6 record. Washington State awaits its bowl game destination, to be announced Sunday.
With Potter leaving and Eckhaus exhausting his eligibility, the quarterback position for the 2026 season remains uncertain. The current roster includes sophmore transfer Ajani Sheppard, as well as freshmen Julian Dugger, Owen Eshelman, and Dalton Anderson. While Dugger saw limited action this season as a running QB, the others have yet to make an apperance for the Cougars. The team will now have to decide whether to develop one of its current players or search for a quarterback in the transfer portal.
