Nagercoil Embraces Innovation: Corporation Offers Subsidized Workspace to Startups

NAGERCOIL, December 5, 2025 – In a bid to foster innovation and economic growth, the Nagercoil Corporation has taken a significant step towards creating a thriving startup ecosystem in Kanniyakumari district. The Corporation has allocated workspace within its new complex at the Omni bus stand to ten startup companies, registered under DPIIT and Startup TN platforms, at subsidized rates.

The initiative, spearheaded by Nagercoil Corporation Commissioner Nishant Krishna and Mayor R. Mahesh, aims to transform the city into a hub for innovation and provide crucial support for emerging startups. Commissioner Krishna emphasized the importance of creating an environment where startups can flourish, citing space constraints and high rental costs as key factors in offering the concessional rates.

“Our core aim is to create an eco-system that can help nurture startup firms,” Krishna stated. “Considering the space congestion in the city and high cost of rented shops, we have allotted these spaces for startup firms at a concessional rate solely for the growth and development of both firms and the city.” He also hinted at future expansions based on the success and demand of the current initiative.

The selected startups represent a diverse range of sectors, including AI-powered healthcare solutions, fintech enterprises, Geographic Information System (GIS) companies, ride-hailing platforms focused on tier III cities, and AI-based business automation ecosystems.

S. Satheesh Kumar, who secured space for his firm, praised the Corporation’s initiative for consolidating startups in one prime location. He highlighted his firm’s previous collaboration with the Kanniyakumari district administration and noted the positive impact of the new initiative.

A representative from Startup TN for the Tirunelveli region believes that establishing such startup ecosystems in tier III cities like Nagercoil will significantly boost employment opportunities. The prominent location of the new workspace is also expected to enhance business visibility and attract potential investors. The move is seen as a crucial step in supporting local talent and driving economic development in the region.
