Fri Dec 05 08:57:45 UTC 2025: ## Gaza Cinema Initiative Offers Children a Glimpse of Hope Amidst Devastation

Gaza City – A local cinema initiative is bringing moments of joy and normalcy to children in Gaza, who have been deeply traumatized by the ongoing conflict and its devastating consequences. Volunteers have established a makeshift cinema screen in a displacement camp, providing children with the opportunity to watch films and escape, even temporarily, the harsh realities of war and displacement.

The initiative aims to offer a “positive vibe” for children struggling to cope with the loss of family, friends, homes, and schools due to the conflict, according to Minass al-Jabour, the initiative’s media coordinator. With the majority of schools in Gaza severely damaged or destroyed, these screenings provide a rare opportunity for children to engage with something other than the destruction around them.

“This is something new for me. I came out of the war, and they are giving us many activities, including cinema … and we really enjoyed it,” said Sara Abu Sharbi, a displaced girl in the camp, highlighting the impact of the initiative.

Palestinian filmmaker Mustafa al-Nabih, a participant in the initiative, emphasized the power of art, particularly cinema, in offering hope and nurturing imagination in children affected by the violence. “A child who has seen so much blood and loss can, through cinema, glimpse a better reality,” he stated. “Cinema transports a child into a world of imagination, love and beauty… and shows them colours, stories, and moments that take them out of the ruin around them.”

The initiative provides a small but significant respite for children who have endured immense suffering, offering a chance to escape, dream, and perhaps, begin to heal.
