Hyderabad, India – December 5, 2025 – Widespread flight cancellations and delays caused by IndiGo’s ongoing operational issues have triggered an unprecedented surge in demand for charter and business jets across India. Charter companies are reporting being overwhelmed, with inquiries increasing fivefold in the past 48 hours.
The disruption has left business travelers, families, and frequent flyers scrambling for alternatives, especially on routes between major cities like Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. Sourabh Jangid, Accountable Manager at Nibe Aeronautics, stated that charter movements have tripled, with companies struggling to meet the escalating demand, with the limited fleet size restricting the capacity to absorb sudden spikes.
This spike in demand has been accompanied by a sharp rise in domestic airfares, with some routes seeing ticket prices doubling or even tripling. A last-minute Air India economy ticket from Hyderabad to Bhopal even reached an eye-watering ₹1.03 lakh.
This pricing, coupled with the urgency of travel, has led individuals and families to book charter flights, even at a premium. Charter jet prices currently range from ₹2.5 lakh per hour for smaller aircraft to ₹4 lakh per hour for larger jets, excluding additional charges.
The situation has also presented logistical challenges for charter firms, including difficulties in mobilizing crew due to commercial flight disruptions and a lack of parking space at congested airports.
Industry experts predict the surge in demand for charter services will continue until IndiGo stabilizes its operations, although the limited fleet size restrains the capacity to absorb sudden spikes. While still an expensive option, charter flights are becoming the preferred alternative for those prioritizing time over cost in the face of the ongoing airline chaos.
