Los Angeles, CA – Courtney Stodden, 31, revealed a tumultuous start to their marriage with Jared Safier, 42, marking their one-year anniversary on Tuesday. In an Instagram post, Stodden admitted they nearly called off the wedding on their wedding night.
According to Stodden, a “misunderstanding” escalated into a fight fueled by alcohol and “outside voices,” leading Safier to leave, believing space was necessary. Stodden spent the honeymoon night alone in the bridal suite, haunted by past traumas stemming from their controversial marriage at age 16 to then-51-year-old actor Doug Hutchison.
“I felt like dying,” Stodden wrote, reflecting on the fear, abandonment, and panic triggered by the experience.
Despite the rocky start, Stodden ultimately chose to stay and rebuild the relationship. “I’m grateful we came back with honesty, and a willingness to rebuild. Because I love him. And I know he loves me too,” they shared.
Stodden acknowledged the challenges of entering marriage with “childhood scars” and “complicated family dynamics,” adding that they are actively working on communication, love, and choosing each other.
Us Weekly reported that the couple tied the knot in a “last-minute wedding” on December 3, 2024, at Casa de Monte Vista in Palm Springs, California, with just 20 guests. Stodden described the wedding as spontaneous.
Stodden’s previous marriage to Hutchison ended in divorce in 2020.
